About the Event
Last Spring, you all told us that one of the OU sessions you enjoyed the most was our discussion on navigating our own positionalities and identities as scholars of South Asia. Some of the questions we discussed included: Who gets to study South Asia, and who decides? What are the costs of studying South Asia (from each of our positionalities)? How do we draw from our academic training, without privileging academic ‘knowing’ as the most superior form of ‘knowing’? What are the futures of our disciplines? How can we actively support BIPOC scholars? What does it mean to decolonize South Asian Studies?
Clearly, there's so much to keep discussing - we needed a Part II!
We're kicking off our first session this Fall on Oct 1, 4:30 pm! We'll be sitting down with our SAS Department language preceptors, and continuing the conversation from last semester - thinking more about how language pedagogy, identity, power, and student learning are all connected for each of us.
